A Student's Perspective
Hi, I'm Jonna and I'm a senior at Lutheran High School.
In grade school, I moved all over the place. I went from Christ The King, to St. Joe's, and finally to St. Agnes before coming as a freshman to LuHi. The kids who come here aren't just from Lutheran grade schools - they come from all over Springfield and the surrounding areas, like Athens and Mt. Pulaski.
I relate Lutheran High to a big teddy bear. But not just any teddy bear - a "build-your-own" teddy bear, because you make your bear your own, with a heart, or different outfits, or even a race car. That describes our school. We have so many people who come together from all kinds of places and end up loving each other like family. And everyone here is so friendly, you just want to hug them!
My parents strongly encouraged me to go to Lutheran, and although I was unsure about the decision, after just the first week of school it honestly felt like home.
Some people dread going to school. I mean, school IS school, but this school does so many neat things that other students at bigger schools don't get to experience. Like a school clean up day, off campus blood drive, field trips to Broadway musicals, leadership activities, traveling chapel.
Another nice thing, is that you can see your friends AND meet new people at the same time.
The teachers are so accommodating and will do anything in their power to help you understand the material. The upperclassmen are so helpful and talk to everyone. Although I have my close friends, I also have good friends from every single grade.
You can be involved in everything here. I do basketball, volleyball, track, SADD, Spiritual Life Committee, musicals, madrigals, jesters. Anything you're interested in, the student body will gladly welcome you with open arms.
Whenever someone asks me what school I go to, I proudly reply, "Lutheran." And before they have a chance to ask, I stop them mid-sentence and say, "I love it!"
If you are unsure about coming here, truthfully it was the best decision my parents ever made for me. You will not be disappointed with the athletics, activities, academics, and the amazing lifelong friends you will meet along the way.
